Whatever your subject or style, when it comes to good writing, one thing is clear: we could all use a little help at times in getting the words right. What many don’t realize is that there’s more to editing than correcting misspellings or grammatical gaffes. Do you need a proofread or an edit? A copy edit or a substantial edit? Do you know the difference? Are your tenses or metaphors mixed, your sentences consistently choppy or so long your readers forget what you started to say by the time they reach the end? Do your characters speak in a manner reflecting their time and station? How about your theme—is it clear or lost in translation?
Chances are you’d rather concentrate on ideas than mechanics. So would I, but I was born with a gene that doesn’t allow me to do that very often, so why not allow me put it to work for you?
